Den tämligen kände amerikanske klättraren Charlie Fowler http://www.charliefowler.com/ har omkommit i Kina.
Seattle Times rapporterar:
"... one body has been found on Genyen Peak at 5750m The body has been confirmed as that of one of the two American climbers missing since early November but as yet, the individual has not been identified.
Christine Boskoff and her partner, Charlie Fowler had not been heard from since November 7th. In it's early stages, the search had been complicated by a lack of solid information regarding the pairs intentions.
The break through came just before Christmas when searchers found some luggage left in the care of a Chinese man whom Christine Boskoff and Charlie Fowler had hired as a driver in early November. The luggage was found in Lamaya, a remote village in southwest China's Sichuan Province. The new discovery lead searchers to focus on the nearby 6,204 Genyen Mountain
28/12/06 The body found has been confirmed as that of Charlie Fowler. From the position of the body, searchers believe he as swept off the mountain by an avalanche. Fowler was wearing a heavy pack containing the pairs food, tent and sleeping bags. He was not wearing a harness or tied into a rope.
Fowler and Boskoff were not roped together, and so the search continues. About 30 searchers spent the day searching for Boskoff by probing the snow using long fiberglass poles. There is a chance the search may be called off in the face of increased avalanche risk."
