Trekkertent Edge
Tyckte att Edge 1 på
trekkertent.com (som Ulvskog tipsade om i inlägg #67) verkade mycket intressant så jag slängde iväg några frågor till tältdesignern Marc. Så här skrev jag:
"Hi there!
I saw a link to your site at a Swedish outdoor forum and your tents looks really nice! I'm looking for a really sturdy 1p tent to use mainly in the Scandinavian mountains and the Edge 1 do look like it could do the job. But I do have some questions...
1. I'm pretty tall (195cm) and I have also acquired the bad habit of sleeping on a 9cm sleeping pad (Exped downmat). Therefore I do worry that the tent might be a bit too short. I guess it all depends on how steep the short ends of the tent are (which is a bit hard to tell from the pictures). Have you had any response from any tall user of this tent yet?
2. I would really like to see some pictures from the inside of the tent. You write about different options with solid or part mesh inner, it would be really nice to see what they look like. If you choose the solid inner, is it possible to open up and still get mosquito protection (e.g. if you are familiar with how the inner doors of Hilleberg's four season tents usually look like?)?
3. What's in the repair kit that you could buy as an accessory? Is there anything of this sort (extra patches of fabric, spare pole section. etc) included with the tent?
4. What do you think about the possibilities of shipping to Sweden and if so, what the total might add up to?
5. I understand that you are still in the early stages with your tent selling business and might not have worked out every detail yet. That's OK, but do you have a newsletter to subscribe to or is there any way to stay updated?
If you don't mind, I will probably post your answer in the same Swedish outdoor forum (
www.utsidan.se)
Thanks a lot!
Regards,
Tobbe Carlsson, Sweden"
Fick följande svar:
"Hello Tobbe
Thank you for your enquiry.
The Edge 1 is good for me at 187cm tall and on a 7cm sleeping pad and there is space at either end. I think it might work for you at 195cm but I think there would be very little space left at either end. There is a prototype Edge 2 (1.4kg - photos attached) that has been used by a 193 cm tall tent tester and he said it was fine for both length and height. The Edge 2 is 2cm longer and higher than the Edge 1. I will ask him to test the Edge 1 also and then report the findings to you.
The standard inner tent has high level mesh panels built into the solid fabric panels, as in the photo attached. This keeps breezes of the occupant at night but allows a good crossflow of air for ventilation. This configuration seems to work best in the Scottish Highlands, where the climate can be very damp and condensation can be a problem. It could have both solid fabric and mesh door panels to allow both mosquito protection as well as better ventilation and views, and for it to be fully closed up. This would add about 80 grams to the weight.
Shipping to Sweden would cost £16. There is no repair kit included with this tent but any failures due to normal use would be repaired free of charge. Extra pole connector sections were given out to the testers but when set up correctly there is little stress on the tent poles, most is taken by the hiking poles. A small repair kit could be included free of charge if requested.
This tent is probably overkill for general backpacking or hiking use, it was designed to be pitched in exposed mountain areas in all weather. It has a very strong pole structure and there is very little movement in strong winds. It can also be set up to flex a little in very strong winds if required, to take some strain off the tie-outs. The tie-outs all have bonded reinforcements, rather than sewn reinforcements. This distributes the stresses evenly over a large surface area, rather than across a line of stitches.
There are some custom inner tents being made and I hope to have more details on the website in a week or so. There is not a newsletter at the moment but the intention is to update the blog regularly with any developments and make it available for subscription. Some reviews of this tent should be coming out in the next month or two also.
You can post this reply on the forum if you wish.
Kind Regards, Marc"
