Hitchhiking in Sweden

Dear forum, apologies that I write in English. I can read a bit of Swedish but am bad at writing and speaking.
A few years ago I've hitchhiked in Norway and Sweden. This was a great experience. Now I am planning a trip to Jamtland and am looking for info. Ofcourse I can drive there but this might be more fun (and cheaper) from Holland.

Does anyone know of a hitchhikers organisation in Sweden/Europe? I've looked at a local organisation but apparently not many people go this direction.
Or (very cheeky now) do you know of trucks who often go through Holland and are kind to hikers? Because I live behind a road where trucks heading for Germany, Denmark and Scandinavia pass through daily.
Any info, tips or don't-do-this are appreciated.

Tack so mycket
Christy

"Hitchhiking i Sverige

Christy"

Hitchhiking in Sweden have become much harder the last 15 years is my personal experience. More roads are getting official highway-status and therefore illegal to walk on (making hitchhiking very difficult!) and the larger paranoia in society that people cannot be trusted is making less people stop. Last year I was hitchhiking south on the westcoast and some days I think walking would have taking me faster there.

I do not know of any hitchhiking-organizations in sweden when it comes to transport. There are some global Internet-phenomena when it comes to sleeping over that work well in Sweden but that doesn't solve the problem of actually getting there.

I you buy a ticket a month in advance the trip Göteborg - Stockholm costs 10 EURO with the fastest train (3 hours). I have found this is much cheaper than hitch-hiking when it comes to overall expenses in food and water and such.

For example Malmö C – Östersund C thursday 10th of July cost 23 EURO and takes 13 hours. I would say that this is propably the cheapest option of all as drivning that distance takes alot longer and will need food!

Real bra tips killar.
Mycket uppskattat.

Och .. Hör av dig om översättaren gör ok.

Hmm Niklas,
To claim that it's inexpensive to go by trains in Sweden with SJ is a damnright lie. Simply because there is no competition. In some cases even buses were prohibited from going certain stretches.

Eg from Karlskrona it's still impossible to go northward (with a good connection) and not use SJ's expensive trains In some cases I even take the local bus to Kalmar and then the Kustpilen train ( wich is driven by SJ for the local traffics of Östegötland and Kalmar )to Linköping but I always have to wait quite some time for the connecting train. from 40 minutes to 2 hours. I don't know if it's still a prohibition or if the market is not working.

Advance tickets then? well if You are certain that You will go a certain stretch go for it. But I doubt that a person considering hitchiking is planning that much in advance. I for myself often cannot plan so much in advance and If one wants the ticket to be refundable You have to pay several hundred crowns for that.

BTW the 95 crown-ticket I've never ever come across while booking with SJ- strangely I guess;)
(more likely for Karlskrona-Motala advance ticket would be 365 SEK)

I have hitchiked quite a bit here and it can be quite hard, but on the other hand You can have luck an do very well. I would guess that it would be similarly difficult in Holland. And to compare it's harder in Poland but very easy in the Czech Republic.

One tip: A good way of getting from Holland would be to take the bus to Düsseldorf Weeze close to the Dutch border and from there You can go to with Ryanair to Växjö or to Stockholm Skavsta. Eg a return ticket 6-9 June to Växjö would now be 118 SEK

Best wishes

Not bad guys, tack.
