A mountain of hype: Everest
Don't believe what they tell you: Climbing Everest is no big deal

Vince Anderson "The real "narcissist" is he who short cuts the experience and training necessary to climb that high by fair means and instead will do anything it takes (i.e. use O2, fixed ropes, sherpas, etc.) to get to the top. That is the person "who only cares for himself" in my opinion.Getting to the top of the highest summits used to be something that had to be earned, but now is simply purchased. And yes, the last time I checked, climbing was still dangerous."
Katie Ives "For those of us who aren't elite climbers, can't we content ourselves with smaller peaks, within our limits, that we can climb in good style and have a real adventure on? =) The highest summits aren't for everyone, nor do they need to be. I remember climbing the Grand Teton one winter, and thinking here was everything, in miniature--powder-covered slabs, rime ice, the light of the sunset blowing through spindrift clouds--at a size that I could immerse myself in fully, because it was relative to my lesser ability, experience and imagination. I think the sense of beauty, the inner dimension and the holistic experience of climbing gets too easily lost now."
