Last year, on the northern bank of Miellädno river close to the Padjelantaleden bridge, I noticed a grave from 1944. It's about a man who escaped from a German war prisoner camp in Norway. Is anything else known about this man and which route he took from Norway to Miellädno?
Two years ago I hiked from Rago to Virihaure. It's not an easy walk for a well-equipped trekker, much worse for a war prisoner with bad shoes, bad clothes and not much food. I assume he came from Rago. If he came by the well-known escape route from Hellmobotn, I guess he would have walked rather towards Ritsem?
As I see the story, this man almost made it to safety after an incredible escape. He would have to swim across Mielädno river and walk for 10 more km to find people, or at least some Sami huts and food supplies, at Staloluokta?
If anybody knows more, please comment.
